19. Sliding door rubber.

Just a quick job today, which is nice because I'm pretty burned out right now.

Back near the beginning of this conversion, I bought some door rubber from Eastern Europe. The sliding door rubber was missing, which means the electrical connection between the van and the door was no longer aligned, which meant the central locking didn't work.

There were also areas of wear, where the rubber had abraded the paint work over time.

These areas may well have been safe due to the galvanised layer, but I didn't want to take any chances.

The rubber I ordered from Eastern Europe arrived, and... it's not long enough. I decided to install it anyway along the top and as much of the sides as I could cover, to help keep the rain out.

(Edit: It's many months later, and the second lot of rubber has finally arrived.)

So much has been done to the van since the last entry- there's a floor now! I have a nice long length of the right shape rubber, I just have to cut it and attach it to the two ends of the other length of rubber.

The old rubber has a male end and a female one, so I'm lining up the new rubber with the male extrusion (middle right). Be proud of me, I made zero puns here.

That's the female end in the top left corner.

All installed, and I can happily report the sliding door closes firmly against all seals, and the central locking works again. The entryway is pretty dirty and could use a repaint eventually, but once I give it a wipe down I'm calling it done for now. Obviously there are a lot of other jobs that take priority over the aesthetics of the entryway.

See you next time!
